A woman has died after she was hit by a truck while walking in Sydney’s inner west on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to Leichhardt just before 10.30am following reports a female pedestrian had been struck by a truck.

Bystanders attempted to help her before three ambulance crews and a specialist medical team arrived at the scene on the corner of Marion and Flood streets.

Paramedics treated the woman for critical injuries, but she was unable to be revived.

NSW Police said she was yet to be formally identified.

The male driver of the truck was not injured and would be taken to hospital for mandatory testing, police said.

“The bystanders who attempted to assist the patient before we arrived on scene are to be highly commended, it was a heartbreaking scene,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Karl Cronan said.

“As the state begins to open up this will mean more vehicles and pedestrians on and around the roads. We have to look out for each other, especially in these difficult weather conditions.”

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command have established a crime scene as they investigate the incident.
