NSW Road Safety Action Plan 2026

The NSW Government’s 2026 Road Safety Action Plan was recently launched in April 2022 and aims to build on the effective road safety initiatives already delivered through the Road Safety Plan 2021.

The 2026 Plan includes new targets to halve road deaths and reduce serious injuries by 30 per cent by 2030. It is based on the proven Safe Systems approach to road safety, so that initiatives to deliver safer roads, speeds, people and vehicles work together to keep us protected.

A key action featured within the Plan under the NSW Government’s priority area to increase the safety of light vehicles, heavy vehicles and protective equipment, includes the continued support to the Construction Logistics and Community Safety – Australia Program to manage the risks of increased construction vehicle movements through:

·         Promoting the adoption of minimum heavy vehicle safety requirements (e.g. blind spot technology, underrun protection, lane departure and forward collision warnings)

·         Promoting requirements for driver training and logistics planning; and

·         Encouraging other NSW agencies, local governments and major construction companies and transport operators to become Program members.
