The Principal Designer (CDM) and CLOCS
As the National Standard for construction road safety, providing a framework to drive consistency and collaboration through the life of a project, it is vital that work-related road risk is understood, risks identified and mitigating plans developed and implemented from as early as possible.
In this CLOCS Safety Forum, we were joined by Philip Baker who presented a paper that has been prepared by the Association for Project Safety (APS) on the role of the Principal Designer (PD) in kicking off the CLOCS process in the early design work and what the designers, encouraged by the PD, can do in ensuring that appropriate planned measures have been considered early in the project design.
The session looked at roles and responsibilities, the benefits of taking early action, statutory requirements and how this all translates to the design process.
A copy of the presentation can be found here while a recording of the Forum is available within the CLOCS member portal.
Philip also shared a copy of the APS CLOCS Designer Guide developed by the APS.
