‘Safety features and technologies for heavy vehicles’

Transport for NSW has recently updated the ‘Safety features and technologies for heavy vehicles’ publication, as of March 2024.

The ‘Safety features and technologies for heavy vehicles’publication highlights a number of vehicle safety features which can help drivers avoid a crash or reduce the severity of a crash. These include ‘crash avoidance technologies’, such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), ‘protective technologies’, including Side Underrun Protective Devices (SUPDs), and ‘general safety’ features and technologies, such as Automatic Crash Notification (ACN) systems.

Transport has recently updated the publication to include the additional safety features, such as:

  • Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS)
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) Nearside Turn
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) Turn Across
  • Motion Inhibit.
