CILT Australia has successfully piloted the ‘post licensing’ Driver Supervisor Certification program. This certification microcredential is available to experienced drivers who wish to formalise their experience and driving knowledge and become a Certified Driver Supervisor. (The program was developed through an NHVR HVSI grant in 2024).
This Certification allows the driver supervisor to conduct assessments on heavy vehicle drivers who are already formally licensed. The assessment acts as a formalised VOC for both company and owner drivers.
The second round of driver supervisors were presented with their Certification cards on the 15th of October. Heather Jones and Glyn Castanelli are seen here receiving their cards from CILTA’s Karyn Welsh and Kim Hassall.
The Driver Supervisor Certification represents a significant step forward in strengthening safety, compliance, and professional standards across the heavy vehicle industry. By equipping experienced drivers with the skills and authority to assess and mentor others, the program supports a culture of continuous improvement and accountability on the road.
CILT Australia is now working with industry partners to expand the program nationally, ensuring that transport operators of all sizes have access to certified supervisors who can conduct consistent, high-quality driver assessments. The growing interest and positive feedback from participants highlight the value of this initiative in bridging the gap between licensing and ongoing competency assurance.
