Presented by Chris Loose , Scott Grimme, and Darcy Shepherd at the 2024 TMC Conference on October 22, 2024.
2.55 metre Safer Freight Vehicles are required to be fitted with side underrun protection. Government infrastructure projects also require side underrun protection to be fitted, and it will be mandatory for trucks and trailers accredited to the CLOCS-A silver standard.
The ATA has published a new edition of its technical advisory procedure on side underrun protection. The new edition provides comprehensive guidance for complying with the side underrun protection design rule, ADR 106/00, with diagrams to clarify areas of uncertainty and validated construction advice.
In this session, they explored:
- the results of the engineering validation of our construction advice.
- what side underrun protection devices are intended to do
- the ATA’s guidance on side underrun protection, including clarifications sought by users
