Vulnerable Road Users Deaths and Serious Injuries in Collisions with HGVs Fall 50 per Cent Under Mayor’s Lorry Safety Scheme

As Transport for London (TfL) marks this year’s Road Safety Week, it has released new data demonstrating that the world-leading Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is helping to save lives in London. Since the lorry safety scheme, which reduces dangerous blind spots, was introduced in 2019, there have been on average six fewer fatalities and 21 fewer serious injuries each year involving Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs). This equates to a total of 19 fewer deaths and 62 fewer serious injuries since the DVS was enforced between 2022 and 2024.
